Carrie Lynn Dillman Addis, age 36, of Lakemont, Georgia, passed away on February 5, 2020.

 

Carrie was born the daughter of Raymond Lee Dillman and Brenda Lee Rohrbaugh Dickerson on November, 14, 1983. In her professional life she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

 

Carrie was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Lee Dillman and her brother, Raymond Lee Dillman, Jr.

 

She leaves behind her husband, Brad Addis; her mother, Brenda Dickerson; her son, Logan Blaine Duncan; her daughter, Crysta Jade Duncan; her step-daughter, Briley Addis; two brothers, Bobby Dickerson, Wesley Dickerson, Jr.

 

The family will hold a service at the Flat Creek Baptist Church on Saturday February 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm.

James Verlin Keener: Obituary

James Verlin Keener, 79, of Wolffork Road Rabun Gap, GA., died February 11, 2020 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. He was the widower of Flossie Moore Keener.

Born in Rabun County Georgia April 16, 1940 he was the son of the late James E. Keener and Beatrice Keener. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the 101 First Alert Airborne Division in Port Camel, KY. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Wolffork Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Keener and Beatrice Keener. His wife, Flossie Moore Keener and two sons, Lee Keener and Robert Moore and is survived by one son, Sheldon Keener of Enorea, SC., two daughters and their companions, Marilyn Cooper and Michael Heath of Westminster, SC., Kelly Gilliam and Austin Doyle of Westminster, SC. Thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services will be at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home Friday February 14, 2020 at 3:30 P.M. with Rev. Harvey Conner officiating the church services. The burial will follow at Wolffork Baptist Church Cemetery where Rev. Thomas Burrell will conduct the graveside service.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Thursday February 13, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. TO 7:00 P.M. The Family is at the home on Wolffork Road Rabun Gap, GA.

Kenneth Wilson Hastings, 60 of lakemont, GA.,died February 04, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.

Born in Macon County North Carolina to the late Howard and Katherine Kell Hastings he was a carpenter and was of the Church of God Faith.

He is preceded in death besides his parents by his wife, Kim Welch by one brother, Jimmy Hastings and one sister, Phyllis Johnson and is survived by one son, Adam Hastings of Central South Carolina., one daughter, Brooke Smith of Lakemont GA., one brother, Mark Hastings of Franklin, NC., two sisters, Donna Layman (Greg) of Serveirville, TN., and Sharron Sexton (Robert) of Lakemont, GA., Three grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive .

The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is at their respective residences.

Mary Alice Watts Anglin: Obituary

Mary Alice Watts Anglin, age 77, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on February 2, 2020.

 

Mary was born the daughter of the late Henry William Watts and Edna Ann Tanner Watts on May 3, 1942. Mary was a Christian and a member of the Baptist Faith. In her professional life she worked as a beautician. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brothers, Henry and Luther Watts; her first husband, Hank Stephens; second husband, Donald Anglin; two great-grandchildren, Summer Vinson and Paisley Sutton.

 

Her survivors include her daughter Dana Wilson (Dwight “Flip”); step-daughter, Brooke Teague; step-son, Jeremy Lackey; three brothers, Frank (Virginia) Watts, James (Marie) Watts, Russell Watts;; two sisters, Virginia (J.V.) Nichols, Jean Browning; two grandchildren, Courtnie Welch, Labraun Sutton; three step-grandchildren, Madilyn Kowalsky, Cooper Kowalsky, Ashton Lackey; four great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Vinson, Alaina Vinson, Knox Sutton, Briar Sutton; several nieces and nephews; her special buddy, Randy Teague also survives her.

 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday February 4, 2020 at the Beck Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday February 5, 2020 in the Chapel of the Beck Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Rev. Adam Wright and Rev. Jewell Gaines officiating.

 

Burial will follow the service in the Watts Family Cemetery.

 

The family will be at Randy’s Horse Camp 334 Henry Page Road off of Warwoman Road, in Clayton, Georgia.

Helen Elizabeth Davis Bever: Obituary

Helen Elizabeth Davis Bever, 84, of Rabun Gap, GA passed away peacefully Sunday, January 26, 2020. Born in East Point, GA, the daughter of the late Jodie Lee and Nora Miller Davis. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, AR Bever; brother Harry Davis; and sons, Beauvais, Demetrius and Jason Randall.

Helen had a long and varied life. Professionally she worked at the National Park Community College in Hot Springs, Arkansas, waitressed, instructed yoga, belly dancing lessons, community volunteer and participated in many art and teaching classes.

As an accomplished artist, she painted mountain landscapes, streams and florals. She hand carved a beautiful elephant alabaster statue and a wood freedom flight piece which received many accolades. She especially enjoyed gardening and spending time with her faithful pet companion Lilly and had a wonderful personality that could light up a room.

She was fearless in character and will be missed by many friends, church members and her family. Special appreciation is expressed to Jim and Gail McDaniel.

Helen is survived by her son, Maurice (Vicky) Randall, sister Jody (Cliff) Manus, sister-in-law Julia Davis, daughter-in-law Wendy Randall, grandchildren Melissa (Earl) Cranor, Jenny Adams, Chris (Theresa) Randall, Brandy (Justin) Verton, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11am Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Rush Cemetery, Coweeta Church Road in Otto, NC with Rev. Doug Volk officiating. In memory of Helen, live outdoor potted plant donations, at graveside, would be appreciated and will be planted in her honor in the spring.

Dorothy “Dot” W. Green: Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” W. Green, 94, of Clayton, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at Cannon Wood Villages in Tiger. Dot was the youngest daughter of Terrell and Ina Wilkinson of Toccoa.  Dot grew up in Stephens County, graduate from the University of Georgia with a degree in Home Economics. After graduation, she worked as a Home Demonstration Agent for the University of Georgia Extension Service.  Her work brought her to Rabun County in 1949 where she met and married Jack Powell Green and began working in the family business The Green Hotel in Clayton.

 

Dot was an avid golfer and card Shark, enjoying both bridge and golf with coconspirators.

 

She was a faithful member of the Clayton First United Methodist Church and several of the UMW women’s circles.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack and her brother and sisters; Grace Patten of Clayton, Dr. Charlton Wilkinson, DVM of Manchester, TN, Sue Stith of Columbia, SC and Ellis Sexton of Clayton.

 

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws, Jay and Bess Green and Gary and Linda Green, all of Clayton, grandsons Jake Green and Andrew Land of Atlanta, Nic and Ashley Green of Jefferson, Jack and Brynn Green of Athens and Michael Green of Bandon, Oregon. One great grandson, Nicholas Powell Green, Jr. of Jefferson and locally, one niece, Martha Folsom

 

The family will receive friends Tuesday January 28, 2020 at Clayton First United Methodist Church from 12:30 pm until 1:45 pm.

 

A Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Clayton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Zack Martin officiating. Dot will be laid to rest in the Clayton Cemetery.

 

A celebration of Life will be held at Cannonwood Village on Wednesday January 29, 2020 at 1:30 pm.

John Cornell Gullett: Obituary

John Cornell Gullett, 82, of Rabun Gap, GA, passed away on Monday January 27, 2020 at Mountain View Health Care Center.
Born December 29, 1937 in Anderson, TN, he was the son of the late Jewells Gullett and Dorthey Gullett. He lived most of his life in Rabun County and worked as a boy scout ranger for Camp Rainey Mountain and he was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Tiger Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Gullett and by his parents, Jewells and Dorthey Gullett. He is survived by two sons, Mark Gullett of Eden, NC and Stephen Gullett of Rabun Gap, GA, by a sister, Patricia Rezentes of Tennessee and also by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family is at their respective residences.

Barbara Louetta Cannon Jenkins: Obituary

Barbara Louetta Cannon Jenkins, age 82, of Dillard, Georgia, passed away on January 26, 2020.

 

Barbara was the daughter of the late Irvin Cannon and the late Bessie Swafford Cannon on July 21, 1937. Barbara was known for her love of flowers. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her. She passed on her knowledge of canning, sewing and many other life skills to them. In her professional life she worked as a seamstress for Clayburn Manufacturing.

 

In addition to her parents, one brother, Carl Leroy Cannon; two sisters, Inez Hardy and Jackie Houck, preceded her in death.

 

She leaves behind her loving husband, Gordon Jenkins, of the home; one son, Bobby Hamilton (Michelle), of Satolah, Georgia; four daughters, Marlene Anderson, of Clayton, Carol Owens, of Anderson, SC, Anita Hamilton, of Rabun Gap, Kim McKay (Ricky), of Clayton; one brother, Tommy Cannon of Smyrna, Georgia; one sister, Wilma Jean Trusty of Mountain City; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive her.

 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday January 28, 2020 at the Beck Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 29, 2020 in the Chapel of the Beck Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Rev. Gabe Southards officiating.

 

Interment will follow the service in the Rabun Memory Park.

Lloyd Sylvia “Buck” Craig, age 88, of Clayton. GA passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by family and friends. Buck was born December 4, 1931 in Rabun County and was the son of the late Ina Cleo Holcombe Craig and Virgil Columbus Craig of the Bridge Creek Community.

He was a veteran of the United States Army of the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Alaska. He loved the outdoors and spent his free time hunting, fishing and camping. He was a carpenter and a member of Battle Branch Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ina Craig, by five brothers, L.E. Craig, Wilford Craig, Jess Craig, James Craig and George Craig and by five sisters, Gladys Craig, Myrtle Caudell, Nora Bingham, Ive Lee and Evelyn Alley.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Gipson Craig of the home, a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Lawanda Craig of Clayton, GA,a brother, Jack Craig of Otto, NC, sisters, Leo Smiley of Bryson City, NC and Ruth Parker of Loganville, GA. Two granddaughters, Jessica Welch (Andrew) and Jan Bader (Kyle), two grandsons, Will Craig and Garrett Craig and three great grandchildren, Brendalyn Welch, Jake Bader and Brooklyn Bader also survive.

Born in Guanajuato, Mexico on July 26, 1945, he was the son of Guadalupe Cintora and Nicolasa Carmona Cintora. He was a carpenter and of the Catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Nicolasa Cintora and a son, Socorro Cintora. He is survived by a Companion , Dessie Jane Gibson of Rabun Gap, GA, two sons, Tommy Welborn (Theresa) of Clayton, GA, Franco Cintora (Stonny) of Clayton, GA, two daughters, Ancella Chism(Robbie McCutchen) of Mountain City, GA, Nicolasa Watson (Tony) of Rabun Gap, GA, one brothers, Trinidad Cintora , a sister, Isidra Cintora Gomez of Mexico. Twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren also survive.

Jack Elmer Bradshaw, 83, of Clayton, GA passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.
Born September 20, 1936 in Towns County, GA ,he was the son of the late Clinton Bradshaw and Corrie Eller. He was a self-employed carpenter and was a United States Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Sue English Bradshaw and his parents, Clinton and Corrie Bradshaw, a brother, Elbert Verlon Bradshaw and by a sister, Leona Tyler.
He is survived by four daughters, Sharon Bradshaw Vinson (Bobby), Marlene Defoor, Rita Bradshaw and Janet Bradshaw Bush (Joey), all of Clayton, GA, by two brothers, Alvin Bradshaw and Grady Bradshaw of Clayton, GA. Ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where the family will receive friends and family on Monday, January 27, 2020 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Luther Julius Evans Jr., age 75, of Hartwell, Georgia, passed away on January 22, 2020.

 

Luther was born the son of the late Luther Julius Evans Sr. and Clessie Ellenburg Evans on December 31, 1944. Luther was a Christian and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, South Carolina and an honorary member of the Abundant Life Church in Hartwell, Georgia. In his professional career Luther worked for Duke Power, as a pipe fitter. He was an avid fan of all sports and a huge supporter of the Clemson Tigers. He enjoyed being outdoors as well, and enjoyed spending time fishing.

 

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by, one son, Anthony Evans;  one grandson, Josh Evans; one sister, Evelyn Patterson.

 

In addition to his mother, his survivors include his loving companion of thirty years, Ruth Shirley; two sons, Scotty Evans, of Seneca, South Carolina, Mark Evans, of Seneca, South Carolina; his brother, Kenneth Evans, of Rock Hill, South Carolina; brother in law, Bo Patterson; his sister, Carol Holland, of Seneca, South Carolina; six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren also survive him.

 

The family will receive friends on Saturday January 25, 2020 at the Beck Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday January 25, 2020 in the Chapel of the Beck Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Rev. Michael Rogers officiating.

 

Burial will follow the service in the Oconee Memorial Cemetery in Seneca, South Carolina.

Emma Sue Free Thurmond, age 75, of Rabun Gap, GA passed away on January 17, 2020 with her family by her side. She was born February 20, 1944 the daughter of the late Harvie D. and Susie Wilson Free.

 

In addition to her parents Emma Sue was preceded in death by one son, Matthew Thurmond; one Grandson Casey Thurmond.

 

She is survived by her husband, Charles Thurmond of Rabun Gap, GA; two sons, Charles Christopher (Marly) Thurmond of Rabun Gap, GA., Eric Clifford (Jennifer) Thurmond of Commerce, GA; three brothers, Terry (Deborah) Free of Toccoa, GA, Tim (Ann) Free of Tiger, GA, Tony (Lynn) Free of Tiger, GA; seven grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

 

She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Wolffork Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Rabun County High School class of 1962 and attended trade school and studied Stenography. Both Emma Sue and Charles worked for the FBI in Washington, DC for two and a half years. Then Charles entered the Army and they lived in different locations as he was moved from different bases, until Charles was deployed to Vietnam. Emma Sue enjoyed taking care of children and family; she enjoyed traveling, fishing and was also a great cook. She was a member of Georgia Tribe Eastern Cherokee State Recognized, and was an officer in the DAV Chapter 15 Auxiliary. She was a member of the Native American Warrior Society Auxiliary and delivered food to needy families in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Emma Sue was very involved with her church for many years until her health kept her from participating.

 

The family will receive friends on January 19, 2020 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM January 20, 2020 at Wolffork Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Barker officiating. Interment will follow in the Wolffork Baptist Church Cemetery.
