Born in Glenn County Georgia., February 16,1989 he was the son of Jeffery Clark and Sandi Humpries Runion he was a cook for McDonald’s and was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his father, Jeffery Clark his mother Sandi Runion and step-mom April Runion of Clayton, GA., one brother, Chris Clark of Pensacola, FL., and one sister, Morgan Clark of Clayton, GA.
The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Phyllis Ann Hale Murphy, age 81 of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on December 16, 2019 at her residence.
She was born in Rabun Gap, Georgia to Eli Kirby Hale Jr. and Frances Wilcox Hale. She was a house wife and homemaker and a member of Clayton Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lester Murphy, a daughter, Kimberly Andrews, and a son Michael Andrews. She is survived by three sons, Howard Grady Andrews of Clayton, Georgia, James Phillip Andrews of Clayton, Georgia, Kirby Walter Murphy of South Carolina, and two brothers, Eli Kirby Hale III. of Villa Rica, Georgia, and Richard Hale, of Atlanta, Georgia. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. In addition to her family, she also leaves behind her countless friends that had the privilege to be touched by her sweet and gentle manner of sincere kindness.
The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Clayton Presbyterian Church in Clayton, Georgia.

Truman Jewell Barber Jr., age 90, died December 14, 2019 at Mountain View Health Care Center in Clayton, Georgia.
He was born on February 19, 1929 in Fulton County, Georgia, to the late Truman Jewell Barber Sr. and Gladys Boddie Barber. He spent the majority of his life in Jacksonville, Florida, before residing in Sky Valley, Georgia, where he was a member of Sky Valley Chapel. He was a United States Army veteran. In his professional life he was an international insurance agent with multiply insurance companys.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of over seventy years, Katherine Barber of Sky Valley, Georgia, one sister, Martha Allison of Marietta, Georgia, two sons, Alan Barber of Concred, Massachusetts, Glenn Barber of Louisville, Kentucky, one daughter, Lori Barber of Franklin, North Carolina, and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive.
The body has been cremated and a memorial service will follow at a later date.

Mark Alan Carman, age 61, of Clayton, Ga. died December 6, 2019, at his residence.
He was born in Fulton County, Ga. on November 3, 1958 to the late Richard and Marilyn Townsend Carman. He was formally of Canton, Georgia, where he resided most of his life. He was a house painter by trade and of Christian faith.
He was preceded in death besides his parents, by one brother, Micheal R. Carman, and two sisters, Diane Mitchell and Nancy Coulson and is survived by one son, Denver W. Carman of Gainesville, GA., and two daughters, Shanda N. Carman of Clayton. GA., and Shelby R. Griggs of Gainesville, GA. Five grandchildren also survive.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home and will be cremated with a memorial service to follow at a later date.
The family is at the home on Old Chechero Road in Clayton, Ga.
Edith Bleckley Burney: Obituary
Obituaries December 15, 2019Edith Bleckley Burney, native of Rabun Gap, Georgia passed away peacefully on her 88th birthday, Dec. 9th, 2019. Born in 1931 to Samuel and Adeline Coe Bleckley, she graduated from Rabun Gap Nacoochee School and then went on to earn multiple degrees culminating in a doctorate in Early Childhood Education from the New Orleans Baptist Seminary.
Alongside her husband, Dr. Robert S. Burney, she served at the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary in Ogbomosho, Nigeria through the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for 30 years. After retiring from the mission field, they continued to be active in missions, religious education, and church outreach.
Predeceased by her husband, Bob, Edith is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Burney Hamilton (Libbi) and son-n-law, Robert Hamilton of Newberg, Oregon, her son, Robert Bleckley Burney (Bobby) and daughter-inlaw, Kimberley Goh-Burney, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and three granddaughters, Laura Beth, Savannah, and Emily Hamilton. Edith also leaves behind a loving extended family of many cousins as well as her Nigerian missionary family.
Visitation will be at Head of Tennessee Baptist Church, Dillard, Georgia, Saturday, December 14th, from 6-8:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 15th, at 1:00 P.M. at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church, Dillard, Georgia., with Rev. Gabe Southards and Rev. Don Copeland and others officatting. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her meory to the International Mission Board or Operation Christmas Child. The Family is at the home.

Dorothy Jean Mitchell Kearns: Obituary

Dorothy Jean Mitchell Kearns, age 85, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on November 30, 2019.
Dorothy was born the daughter of the late Byron Mitchell and Ethel Sorrow Mitchell on July 14, 1934 in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Dorothy was a Christian and was very active in her church, Antioch Methodist Church on Warwoman Road in Clayton. She liked to play the piano, to bake, and to travel. She enjoyed collecting dishes and living in the mountains where she could see the birds and squirrels, that she loved.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Tony Kearns; three sisters, Margaret Pearce, Myra Sue Scott, Ethel Mildred Jones.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Ray Kearns; five sons, Mark Kearns (Paula), of Bogart, Georgia, Lee Kearns (Helen), of Hoschton, Georgia, Rusty Kearns (Pam), of Eatonton, Georgia, David Kearns (Debbie), of Monticello, Georgia, Mitch Kearns (Deanna), of Covington, Georgia; her daughter-in-law, Paula Kearns, of Stone Mountain, Georgia; one sister, Mary Lynn Thomas, of Lithonia, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, also survive her.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Beck Funeral Home on Saturday December 7, 2019 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Lee Krivsky, Oscar Thomas and Richard Kearns officiating.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm on Saturday December 7, 2019.

Ed Perry: Obituary
Obituaries December 8, 2019
Ed Perry, 92 years of age, a resident of Cannonwood Village in Tiger, GA, passed away of natural causes on November 29, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Lindsey Cannon Perry, his parents, Edwin and Grace Perry, a son, Timothy Perry, and a step-son, Cole Cannon. Ed attended Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia, and worked for Columbia Gas Company until his retirement in the late 1980s. After his retirement, Ed came to Clayton to visit his life-long best friend, Paul Lutz.
Paul introduced Ed to his neighbor, Beverly Cannon, and they were married on April 15, 1990, at the Clayton Methodist Church.
Ed immediately became an integral part of Beverly’s family, and her friends accepted him as one of their own. He quickly fell in love with Clayton and was very involved in the community. In addition, he loved “Cannon Country” on Lake Burton, and boaters would see Ed and Bev chauffeuring friends around the lake on their pontoon boat.
Ed will be remembered as a happy fellow with a lively sense of humor. Many of his jokes will be remembered and repeated for years. He was a man who loved everyone and always had a kind word for/about everyone.
Ed is survived by his brother, John, his nephew, David, his step-children, Jolie Cannon (Anthony Laster), and Cass Cannon (Pamela), granddaughter, Cassidy Cannon, grandsons, Kirk Donnell (Valerie), and Derek Donnell (Amber), and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at 1P, at St Helena Catholic Church, Clayton, Georgia.

Born in Clayton Georgia., October 14, 1941 he was the son of the late Philo and Maybelle Chastain Neely. He was a rock mason and a member of the Blue Valley Baptist Church and a member of the North Georgia Coon Club and Macon County Coon Club.
He was preceded in death besides his parents, Philo and Maybelle Neely by one son, Dale Neely and one brother, William Neely and is survived by two sons, Vaughn Neely of Highlands, NC., and Terry Neely of Clayton, GA., one daughter, Denise Zachary (Ben) of Highlands, NC., one brother, Crawford Neely of Clayton, GA., one sister, Katheryn Vanughn of Winder, GA., six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services will be Thursday December 5, 2019 at the Macedonia Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Zane Talley and Rev. Marty Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.

Anna Lee Roach Walker, 84, of Rabun Gap, GA passed away Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Atlanta, GA.
Born in Hiawassee, GA, May 6, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Walter Pool Roach and Nola Bowen. She lived most of her life in Rabun County and worked self empioyed most of her life then worked for Traces of Tiger and she attended the North Clayton Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nola Roach, by her husband, David Lee Walker, a son, David Maurice Walker, by three brothers, Jack Roach, Richard Roach and Carlos Roach and by three sisters, Margaret McManus, Mary Pauline Eller and Sara Henslee. She was the last member of her immediate family.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Tammy Walker of Rabun Gap, GA and by four grand children, Kayla N. Walker, Leon E. Walker, Justin M. Walker and David K. Walker and by three great grandchild and one great great grand child.Lots of nieces an nephews also survive

Rabun County rolls past Toombs County 34-14, advances to quarterfinals

In the state playoffs, big time players make big time plays.
That held true tonight as #14 Gunner Stockton and #4 Braxton Hicks lead Rabun County to the win over Toombs.

The Wildcats started the game with the ball, and the first play was a 53-yard pass from Stockton to Hicks. This play really helped set the tone for the game and gave Rabun the start they were looking for. A few plays later, Stockton hit #5 Hogan Woodard for the 13-yard touchdown and give his team a 7-0 lead.
It took them some time, but Toombs responded. After multiple 3rd down conversions, the Bulldogs tied the game on a 27-yard touchdown run with 4 minutes remaining in the first.
Rabun’s offense couldn’t move the ball far when they got it back. After getting one first down, they failed to get another and had to punt. Toombs returned the punt from midfield to the endzone, giving them a 14-7 lead with less than a minute in the quarter.
The Wildcats started the second quarter like it was a new game. A game that they completely dominated. Stockton quickly found Hicks, #15 Sam Adams, and Hicks again, all for first downs. Stockton then kept the ball for a 20-yard gain on the ground. He followed that run up with another, this time for a 4-yard touchdown to tie the game.
The Rabun County defense got back on track on the next drive. They forced the Bulldogs into a 3rd down situation, where Hicks proved he could be just as effective on defense. He intercepted the pass, giving his team great field position to start their drive.

Stockton picked up where he left off the previous drive, rushing for 2 quick first downs. He continued to show his mobility by rolling out left, avoiding the sack, moving back to the right, and eventually found Adams for a touchdown, giving them the lead back with 2 minutes to go.
The defense of the Wildcats stepped up again, forcing a quick 3 and out. After a fair catch, the Rabun offense had 1:02 left in the half to score from their own 38. Stockton went right back to Hicks for back-to-back first downs. Stockton then found #34 Tate Ramey for a 25-yard gain, setting up a 29-yard field goal from #82 Edwin Diaz. Time expired as the kick went through the uprights, and the Wildcats took a 24-14 lead into the half.
After Toombs got a quick first down to open the half, the Wildcat defense forced a punt. #42 Cory Keller opened the drive with a quick first down run. Stockton then found Adams and Hicks for 2 more firsts. Keller finished the drive off with a 5-yard touchdown to extend his team’s lead to 31-14 halfway through the 3rd.
Rabun’s defense stepped up again and forced another 3 and out. After a first down run by Keller, and a first down reception from Hicks, the Wildcats had to punt. This was their first punt since the 1st quarter.
The Bulldogs were able to get a first down on their next drive after an unnecessary roughness call. #3 AJ Wheeler erased the momentum by intercepting the ball and taking it to the house. However, the touchdown was erased by a flag. Still, Wheeler set his team up with great field position, as they started from the opposite 35-yard line.
After a quick first down run by Stockton, the offense was stopped short and settled for a field goal. Diaz drilled it from 26 yards out, giving his team the 34-14 lead early in the 4th.

The Wildcats attempted to get the ball back with an onside kick, but it was recovered by Toombs. They started their drive from the Rabun 38-yard line. After a first down, and a few pass interference calls, the Wildcats got the stop on 4th down, giving them the ball back.
Stockton sealed any chance of a comeback with a 33-yard run on first down to get the ball away from the goal line. The offense wasted time, but couldn’t get the first down and had to punt.
The Bulldogs got a first down quickly, but Hicks essentially ended the game with a late interception, his second of the game.
Rabun ran out the clock and won the game 34-14.
They will travel to play at Thomasville next Friday in the quarterfinals.
Steve Tillman Warren: Obituary

Steve Tillman Warren, age 74, of Sky Valley, Georgia, passed away on November 26, 2019.
Steve was born on May 1, 1945 to the late Otha Tillman Warren and Laura Peugh. Steve was a former member of the New Hope Methodist Church in Hampton, Georgia and of Fayetteville United Methodist Church. In his professional career he was the C.F.O. of Tara State Bank and American Community Bank, and retired from FiServ Atlanta, in 2012. Steve relocated to Sky Valley in 2016, with his loving wife Caroline Warren.
Steve enjoyed Sudoku puzzles, Jeopardy, taking naps, and looking toward the mountains from his comfortable chair. He loved to feed the birds and spend time watching them.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Germany at the beginning of the Vietnam War. While there, he received the Army Medal of Occupation guarding the Berlin Wall.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Caroline Ellis Warren, of the home; two sons, Gregory Michael Warren, of Monument, Colorado, CPT Allston Tillman Warren, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Michelle Warren Williamson (James), of Fayetteville, Georgia; five grandchildren, Christopher James Williamson, Donna Virginia Williamson Brooks, Ryan Thomas Warren, Alison Ruth Warren, Eric Matthew Warren; one great-grandchild, Cameron Brooks; and many nieces and nephews also survive him.
The family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 pm on Saturday November 30, 2019 at the Sky Valley Chapel with Rev. Monty Nelson and Rev. Edwin Steil officiating.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Steve’s memory to the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund P.O. Box 485, Rabun Gap, Georgia 30568.

Born in Rabun County Georgia July 5, 1953 he was the son of the late Chester and Opal English Rogers. He was air force veteran and a Lab Technologist for Ridgecrest Hospital and a member of the Timpson Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death besides his parents, Chester and Opal Rogers by one brother, Billy Ray Rogers and is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Rogers of the home by two sons, Ben Rogers of Clayton, GA., and Corey Rogers of Dallas, Texas and by eight grandchildren also survive.
The body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Katherine Frances Fisk Lee, age 57, formerly of Silver Springs, MD., and Rabun Gap, Ga., died Wednesday November 20, 2019, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica, New York following a brief illness.
Born June 20, 1962 in Burbank, CA. She was the daughter of the late Walter Wayne Fisk and Sarah Frances Bleckley Fisk and the grand daughter of the late Jasper Hoten Sr. and Icie Darnell Bleckley and the late Joseph Frank and Josie Beck Bleckley. She was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, class of 1980 in Silver Springs, MD., and a 1982 graduate of Washington Business School with a paralegal business administration degree. She was preceded in death by both her parents in 2012,. And a very Special friend her German Shepard “Justice.”
Survivors include one son, Brandon Bleckley Stewart of Rabun Gap, Ga. and Los Angeles, CA., one sister, Sarah Diane Pate (David) of Rabun Gap, Ga., one brother, Jeffery Wayne Fisk of Monroe, NC., one niece, Sarah Darnell Stone(Tim) of Rincon, GA., and one nephew, Logan Davis Darnell Pate of Rabun Gap, GA. One uncle, Wes Fisk (Susie) of Washington State and one aunt Eliane Baxter of Kansas , She was a member of Marvin Memorial United Methodist Church in Four Corners, MD.
She was the FRG leader at Fort Riley, KS., with numerous awards for her service to soldiers and their spouses.
She was a top paralegal for such firms as Weaver, Bennett, and Bland of Mathews, NC., Kansas Legal Services of Manhattan, KS., Clark, Griffin, and McCullom, LLC., of Monroe, NC., and Adams and Associates, Clayton, GA. She will be remembered by friends and family for the love she had for everything around her. Her faith, family, friends, and her mother’s home place on Betty’s Creek.
Funeral Services will be Saturday November 30, 2019 at the Betty’s Creek Baptist Church at 2:30 P.M with Rev. Ronia Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Betty’Creek Church Cemetery.

Walter Scott Dills: Obituary

Walter Scott Dills, age 55 of Dillard, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019.
Born in Rabun County on June 16, 1964, Mr. Dills was the son of Genell Shirley Robinson and the late Lewis Dills. Mr. Dills was a United States Army Veteran having served in the South Carolina Army National Guard with over 21 years of loyal service. Mr. Dills was of the Baptist Faith and was currently employed with the City of Clayton where he was a Code Enforcement Officer. He has worked in Public Safety for over 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Robin Dills of Dillard, mother Genell Shirley Robinson (Clay) of Clarkesville, daughter Kimberly Denae Dills of Dillard, sons Dakota “Kody” Lyman Dills of Dillard and Kyndal Scott Dills of Dillard as well as brother and sister in law Lewis Kirk and Angela Dills of White County.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Clayton Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Rogers, Rev. David Rogers and Rev. Karl Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow the service in Newman’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Otto, North Carolina. The family will receive friends at Clayton Baptist Church on Thursday prior to the funeral service from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

Operation Watchful Eye Reveals Whereabouts of Sex Offenders

RABUN COUNTY, GA -The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office participated in Operation Watchful Eye checking all 28 of our registered sex offenders residing in Rabun County. Of the 28 offenders, all of them were accounted for and in compliance with their probation terms. “This operation was successful not only in our county but across the entire state as the Georgia Sheriffs worked together to ensure our particular counties are safe. To stay up to date on all of our sex offenders I would encourage all of our citizens to please take advantage of our Offender Watch program that can be found on our website rabunsheriff.org,” stated Sheriff Nichols.
Thanks to an initiative involving Georgia’s sheriffs, 40 sex offenders were arrested and 147 warrants issued across the state from October 25 – November 1, 2019 for violations of state registration laws. In 2015, the first coordinated effort across the state was launched to conduct residence verifications and compliance checks of registered sex offenders during a specific time period. The coordinated initiative became known as Operation Watchful Eye. Due to the overwhelming success of the original initiative, Georgia’s sheriffs have made this an annual operation and recently conducted Operation Watchful Eye IV.
The Office of Sheriff is mandated by law to register sex offenders and to keep the public informed of where registered sex offenders reside, work and attend school. Throughout the year, each sheriff’s office verifies addresses provided by registered sex offenders. While conducting residence verifications, deputies also assure additional registration requirements are being adhered to.
The purpose of this statewide effort is to create awareness that sheriffs’ offices work collectively, network, and actively engage their office by participating in statewide verification checks and other non-compliant matters in order to make our state safer. In numerous counties, deputy sheriffs, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Probation officers and Department of Community Supervision probation/parole officers worked together to verify sex offenders comply with the law.
Preliminary reporting by 77 sheriff’s offices reveals 9,178 registered sex offenders, 240 predators, and 123 homeless sex offenders who are currently living in their counties. During the seven-day operation, 7,535 residence verifications were conducted, 96 new sex offenders moved into the reporting counties, 18 new warrants were issued for violations of the sex offender registry law, 13 warrants were issued for new sex offenses, 48 warrants were issued for residency violations of the sex offender registry and 28 warrants were issued for other miscellaneous new charges. More importantly, it was discovered that 190 sex offenders had absconded from their last known address, which will require the sheriff to work with other supporting agencies and track these individuals down.
