Susanna Peters, age 63, of Lakemont, Georgia passed away on October 29, 2019 with her loved ones surrounding her.
Susanna was born the daughter of the late Arthur Joseph Temple and Bessie Christine Ray Temple on May 6, 1956 in Abilene, Texas.
Susanna was a member of the Christian faith and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. In her professional life, she was educated at Bob Jones University, and received a B.S. in food and nutrition. She would go on to work as a dietitian for the BMA Camp, now known as Woodlands Camp, in Cleveland, Georgia, for ten years. She moved with her family to Rabun County in 1990. She was the owner and manager of The Net Seafood Restaurant and the Owner and Operator of A&A Storage in Lakemont. She had a master’s ability at gardening, and always, her family was the most important thing in her life.
In addition to her parents, two sisters, Joy Ross and Hope Dakel, preceded her in death.
Her survivors include, her loving husband, Greg Peters, of the home; her son, Joel Peters (Sarah Buchanan Peters), of Otto, North Carolina; four daughters, Julia Peters Amin (Paresh Amin), of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Joanna Radford (Eric Radford), of Clayton, Georgia, Jaimie Crane (John Crane), of Lakemont, Georgia; Jennifer Peters, of Lakemont, Georgia; two brothers, Tim Temple, of Demorest, Georgia, Philip Temple, of Greenville, South Carolina; two sisters, Faith Scarborough, of Dallas, Texas; Joanna Hutchcraft, of Athens, Georgia; eight grandchildren, , Stella Radford, Oliver Radford, Rowan Radford, Tatham Peters, Xander Peters, Eloise Peters, Nila Amin, Baby Amin.
A memorial service will be held on Friday November 1, 2019 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church at 11:00 am with Rev. John Hutcheson Sr. and Rev. John Hutcheson Jr. officiating.

Henry Russell “Cookie” Cook: Obituary

Henry Russell “Cookie” Cook, age 76, of Clayton, Ga., passed away October 23, 2019 at North East Georgia Medical Center. He was the son of the late Robert “Bob” J. Lawson Cook and Nellie Lucille Carver Cook. His sister Jeanne Grist also precedes him in death.
Cookie was a Rabun County Icon who everyone knew. He was always in Clayton, was always happy, and never met a stranger.
He is survived by half brother Billy Carver of Clayton.
A graveside service will be 2:00 PM Monday October 28, 2019 at the Godfrey Cemetery with Mickey Woods officiating.

Albert Turpin, 86, of Lakemont, GA died Sunday October 20, 2019 in Habersham Home East in Demorest, GA.
Born in Rabun County, June 19, 1933, he was the son of the late Luther and Demorest Taylor Turpin. He lived his entire life in Rabun County. Albert was custodial supervisor of Rabun County High School and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Demorest Taylor Turpin, by four brothers, Cameron Turpin, J. Hugh Turpin, Jesse Turpin, and Jim Turpin, by four sisters, Laura English, Ellie Lovell, Odessa Turpin and Inez Taylor.
Albert is survived by his wife, Winnie Thomas Turpin of the home, two sons, David Turpin (Patty) of Demorest, GA, Gene Turpin of Lakemont, GA, one daughter, Joan Turpin of Tucker, GA, two grandchildren, Amy Wright and Rebecca Hudson and four great grandchildren. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be Wednesday October 23, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. James E. Turpen officiating and Rev. Tony Goss will officiate the graveside service. Burial will be at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Cemetery.
The body is at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home where a visitation will be Tuesday night October 22, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The family is at the home on Worley Creek Rd., Lakemont, GA.

Bobby Allen Jenkins, 64, of Dillard, GA died Thursday, October 17, 2019 at the home of his sister, Elizabeth Bingham, in Mountain City, GA.
Born November 27, 1954 in Macon County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Elcaney Jenkins and Viola Burrell Jenkins. He worked as a card tech for Parkdale and was on the Valley Fire Department for 40 years. He was also of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elcaney and Viola Jenkins, two brothers, Calvin Jenkins and Phillip Charles Jenkins and by one sister, Kathy Lynn Jenkins. He is survived by a daughter, Crystle Jenkins of Nicholson, GA, a brother, Gordon Jenkins (Barbara) of Dillard, GA, one sister, Elizabeth Jenkins Bingham of Mtn. City, GA, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Jenkins of Lakemont, GA and three grandchildren, Rayne, Jayden and Piper Payne. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be at the graveside at Newman Chapel Cemetery Otto,NC., Sunday October 20, 2019 with Rev. Mickey Woods officiating.

Born February 17, 1970, he was the son of Dennis L. Wood and Mary Jane Gibson Wood . He lived most of his life in Rabun County and worked as a self-employed rock and brick mason. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his parents, Dennis Wood of Dallas, GA and Miffy Wood of Mtn. City, GA, a daughter, Gracie Door of Kennesaw, GA, two sisters, Leah Wood of Mtn. City, GA and Athena Quilbault of Washington D.C. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survived.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 24, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Alexander officiating.

Marlon Edwin Holcombe Jr., age 61, of Duluth, Georgia, passed away on October 1, 2019.
He was born the son of the late Marlon Edwin Holcombe and Adel Upchurch Holcombe on December 19, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Marlon loved his family, his friends who became family and the entire Georgia Bulldog Nation. A loyal fan, he had not missed a Georgia football game, home or away, since the 1970’s. He was especially proud of the accomplishments of his nephews and niece. Marlon had prepared for his final day on earth when he accepted Christ as his Savior as a young man. His faith in Christ was not always verbal, but it ran deep and was his refuge even on his hardest days.
He was a founding partner with Waterside Mortgage Brokerage. He took great effort to make his clients feel like family. He always wanted to extend a warm smile, a friendly welcome that caused everyone to feel like they were included and accepted, from the youngest to the oldest. His infectious laugh was usually followed by an engaging story or comment. Strangers were not strangers for long. His legacy of loyal friendship, unconditional love and warm acceptance will follow all who knew and loved him. Loyal to the end.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one nephew, Russ Holcombe.
His survivors include his brother, Don (Kim) Holcombe; his sister, Lisa H. Porter (Doug), of Demorest, GA; three nephews, Douglas Porter, Brad Holcombe, Wes Holcombe; one niece, Hallie Porter Smith.

Benson E. Ledford, age 86, of Rabun Gap, Georgia passed away on September 25, 2019.
Benson was born the son of the late Howard Ledford and Eva Mae Hooper Ledford on November 29, 1932.
He was a Christian by faith and a member of Head of Tennessee Baptist Church. He was the author of three books, Ben’s Life on Bald Mountain, Ben’s Life on Hale Ridge and Ben’s Life on Red Hill. He was a member of the Armed Services and served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. He then went on to work at General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan, and was a member of the UAW. He liked to be outdoors, and enjoyed fishing and bird hunting. Benson most of all enjoyed spending his time with his family.
Preceding him in death was his loving wife, Patricia Ann Ledford; three children, Debbie Ann Ledford, Daniel Allen Ledford and Robert Ledford; four sisters, Brenda Smith, Wanda Pittman, Helen Lewis, Carolbell Black.
His survivors include his three sons, Karl Ledford of Rabun Gap, Georgia, Donald Ledford of Gastonia, North Carolina, Benson Ledford of Keller, Minnesota; two brothers, Larry Ledford, Howard Ledford Jr.; five sisters, Martha Hazel, Liz Sugg, Virginia Frankum, Gail Stancil, Katherine Ledford.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 27, 2019 at the Beck Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Jesse Crampton Taylor, 89 known as (JC) of Lakemont, GA., died Monday, September 23, 2019 at his home. He was the husband of Ann Dotson Taylor, married for over 69 years.
Born March 11, 1930, in Rabun County, he was the son of the late Crampton Taylor and Ila Turpin Taylor .He worked as an electrician and a plumber for Jack Smith Electric, he served in the US Army in Korea, and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Crampton and Ila Taylor, two sisters, Catherine Lang and Evelyn McKenzie and by three brothers, Bob Taylor, Dwain Taylor and Glen Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Ann Dotson Taylor of the home, two daughters, Pam Taylor of Lakemont, GA, and Lisa Taylor McCall (Stephen) of Wiley, GA, four grandchildren, Shannon McKay (Ron), Leslie McKay (Shelly), Weston McCall (Peach), and Haleigh McCall, and by seven great grandchildren, R.J. Neblett, Jesse Mashburn, Ross Neblett, Tessa Neblett, Reed Mashburn, Madaline McCall and Elliot McCall, and also by one great granddaughter, Rosie Neblett.

McKay and Wesley McKay. He is survived by his wife, Martha Ledford McKay of the home, four sons, Wayne McKay of Clayton, GA, Danny McKay of Lakemont, GA, Earl McKay of Clayton, GA and Allen McKay of Gainesville, GA, one brother, David McKay of Clayton, GA and two sisters, Louise Arvey of Atlanta, GA and Ann Quinna of Florida. Fritz Michael Vinson, age 82, of Dillard, Georgia passed away on September 19, 2019 at his home.
Fritz was born the son of the late Fred Hampton Vinson and Pearl Dowdle Vinson on September 8, 1937.
In his professional career, he worked in the textile industry for Burlington Industries, Jame Lees Industries and Fruit of the Loom. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and wood working in his workshop. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, two brothers, Bennie Vinson and Don Vinson; six sisters, Wenona Vinson, Edith Vinson, Evelue Vinson, Jessie Roberts, Aletha LaCount, preceded him in death.
His survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce Enloe Vinson, of the home; his son Jeff Vinson (Dedra), of Dillard; his daughter, Lisa Vinson Harris (Jeff), of Dillard; his brother, Wilton Vinson; three sisters, Selma Green, Lucille Green, Betty Dewberry; his grandson, Tyler Vinson Harris; three granddaughters, Molly Vinson, Meredith Vinson and Lauren Brown (Clay); one great grandchild, Brooks Harris Brown.

Cynthia Geer Smith Whitney: Obituary

Cynthia Geer Smith Whitney passed away on September 11th, 2019.
She was born January 8th, 1942 in Coral Gables, Florida and graduated from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL.
Cynthia married Moragné (Ranny) Alexander Whitney Jr., still living in Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, on December 27th, 1961 and is survived by her three children: Moragné Alexander (MA) Whitney III of Dawsonville, GA; DuGué Whitney Zion of Phoenix, AZ; and Geer Whitney of Woodstock, GA.
In the early 1970s, Cynthia, as Chair of the River Restoration Committee of the Junior League of Miami, initiated the clean-up efforts of the Miami River which continue to this day.
In 1973, Cynthia and Ranny brought their family to Lake Burton where they purchased and became the proprietors of Cherokee Landing Marina. Shortly thereafter, Cynthia started Whitney Realty with local real estate broker Mason Whitney (no relation).
Shortly after establishing herself on Lake Burton, Cynthia joined the Lake Burton Civic Association where she became President in 1978 and stayed involved with the organization throughout the rest of her life.
In 1976 Cynthia, her husband Ranny, and Mason Whitney founded the Lake Burton Fireworks display to celebrate the United States Bicentennial. This annual July 4th celebration continues to this day for the residents of Lake Burton.
After almost 40 years of selling real estate, contributing to the community and living on the beautimus Lake Burton, Cynthia and Ranny Whitney moved to the Sautee-Nacoochee valley to enjoy their retirement and spend time with their family and friends. A longtime artist, her watercolors can be found throughout both the US and Europe. In recent years, she became passionate about knitting caps for abuse prevention and cancer patients and baby blankets for NICU units around the country.
A memorial service will be held September 21st, 2019 at 11:00AM at Beck Funeral Home, 898 Highway 441 South, Clayton, GA 30525 followed by a celebration of Cynthia’s life, covered dishes welcome, at 1:00pm at the Wildcat Fire Department Firehouse on Lake Burton, 5228 Highway 197 North, Clarkesville, GA 30523.

Clinton Breck Wilburn, age 59, of Lakemont, Georgia passed away on Saturday September 7, 2019.
Clinton was born the son of Lee Ray Wilburn and Joyce Pamela Webb Wilburn on April 6, 1960 in Leesburg, Florida. Throughout his life, Clinton enjoyed the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. In his professional career, he worked in the construction industry, and as a mechanic, working on Hot Rod cars that he enjoyed building.
Clinton was preceded in death by his father, Lee Ray Wilburn; his brother, Tracy P. Wilburn.
His survivors include his wife, Jan Beddingfield Webb, of Lakemont, Georgia; his mother, Joyce Wilburn; his son, Joshua Wilburn; his daughter, Levi Jimenez (Luis); two sisters, Colleen Wilburn, of Clayton, Georiga; Yvonnda Lee Stephens, of Clayton, Georgia; two grandchildren, Erica Rojas and Mason Rojas.

Brenda Lawrence Hooper, 60, of the Boggs Mountain Community, Tiger, GA., died Wednesday September 11, 2019 at her home.
Born in Rabun County June 7, 1959 she was the daughter of the late Bill and Eunice Callenback Lawrence. She had lived in Rabun County all of her life. She was retired from Gordon Mills in the textile Industry and had been employed by A.I.D. Corporation. Brenda was a member of the Wolf Creek Baptist Church for thirty years.
Brenda was preceded im death by her parents, Bill and Eunice Lawrence and by a brother; Pell Lawrence and is survived by her husband James (Jim) Hooper of the home a son, Anthony Hooper (Misty) of Tiger, GA., three brothers, Bud Lawrence (Alena) Gary Lawrence (Jerlene) and Tim Lawrence (Beth) of Tiger, GA., two grandchildren, Chloe Hooper and Chase Hooper and a host of loving nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much dearly.
