Suspect drowns in Tallulah River

RABUN COUNTY, Ga – A suspect who ran from law enforcement was confirmed deceased after Rabun County Search and Rescue located the body.

On June 7, Rabun County Sheriff’s Office was requested to assist in a traffic stop in Tallulah Falls by the Georgia State Patrol. While en route, one of the suspects fled and entered the river on foot.

Law enforcement tried to locate the suspect through various means included the Georgia Department of Corrections K9 unit but were unsuccessful.

“Due to the location of the foot chase, it was feared that the individual may have drowned in their attempt to cross the river” the Sheriff’s Office released in a statement.

The Rabun County Search and Rescue team was called in and after multiple river searches, they located the body submerged in the river.

  • Rabun County EMS
  • Rabun County Corner
  • Habersham Sheriff’s Office
