Marlon Edwin Holcombe Jr: Obituary

Obituaries

Marlon Edwin Holcombe Jr., age 61, of Duluth, Georgia, passed away on October 1, 2019.

He was born the son of the late Marlon Edwin Holcombe and Adel Upchurch Holcombe on December 19, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Marlon loved his family, his friends who became family and the entire Georgia Bulldog Nation.  A loyal fan, he had not missed a Georgia football game, home or away, since the 1970’s. He was especially proud of the accomplishments of his nephews and niece. Marlon had prepared for his final day on earth when he accepted Christ as his Savior as a young man. His faith in Christ was not always verbal, but it ran deep and was his refuge even on his hardest days.

He was a founding partner with Waterside Mortgage Brokerage. He took great effort to make his clients feel like family. He always wanted to extend a warm smile, a friendly welcome that caused everyone to feel like they were included and accepted, from the youngest to the oldest. His infectious laugh was usually followed by an engaging story or comment. Strangers were not strangers for long. His legacy of loyal friendship, unconditional love and warm acceptance will follow all who knew and loved him.  Loyal to the end.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one nephew, Russ Holcombe.

His survivors include his brother, Don (Kim) Holcombe; his sister, Lisa H. Porter (Doug), of Demorest, GA; three nephews, Douglas Porter, Brad Holcombe, Wes Holcombe; one niece, Hallie Porter Smith.

The family will receive friends on Sunday October 6, 2019 at the Beck Funeral Home from 2:00 – 3:45 pm.

A funeral will be held on Sunday October 6, 2019 in the Chapel of the Beck Funeral Home at 4:00 pm with Rev. Doug Porter officiating.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Marlon’s memory to the Rabun County Bank Athletic Booster Club, P.O. Box 1873 Clayton, GA 30525, to support young athletes.
